THE APOLLO MOURNS THE LOSS OF APOLLO LEGEND CLIVE DAVIS

The Apollo is deeply saddened by the passing of Clive Davis, a legendary music executive, visionary talent champion, and proud member of The Apollo Walk of Fame.

For more than six decades, Clive Davis helped shape the soundtrack of generations, discovering, nurturing, and elevating some of the most influential artists in music history. From Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, and Luther Vandross to Alicia Keys, OutKast, TLC, Usher, and countless others, his extraordinary ability to recognize greatness transformed the industry and expanded opportunities for artists whose voices changed culture around the world.

In 2025, The Apollo was honored to induct Clive Davis into its Walk of Fame, recognizing his lifelong commitment to artistic excellence and his profound impact on Black music. During his induction, Davis reflected on his role as a "lifelong student of Black music" and spoke passionately about the artists and communities whose creativity inspired him throughout his career.

Clive understood the cultural significance of The Apollo and its role in shaping American music. In accepting his Walk of Fame honor, he described The Apollo as "more than a venue" and "a heartbeat, a beacon" where genius takes the stage and history is made. His words reflected the deep respect he held for this institution and the generations of artists whose careers were launched from its stage.
Michelle Ebanks, President and CEO of The Apollo, said: "Clive Davis leaves behind an unparalleled legacy of championing artists, advancing culture, and ensuring that extraordinary talent could be heard around the world. His passion for music, belief in the power of diverse voices, and unwavering commitment to artistic excellence transformed countless careers and enriched the lives of millions. We are proud to have welcomed him into The Apollo Walk of Fame and will forever cherish his place in our history."

We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and the many artists whose lives and careers were shaped by his guidance, advocacy, and belief in their talent.

His legacy will continue to resonate through the music he championed, the artists he inspired, and the enduring cultural impact of a remarkable life dedicated to the power of song.
