Apollo Theater Remote Learning Workshops offer a diverse selection of interactive experiences in dance, theater, and music. The 50 – 60 minute sessions are available at 10:00 AM EST, 1:00 PM EST and 4:00 PM EST. Please review the programs listed below.
To schedule a workshop for your group, please click the “Schedule Here” button next to the workshop(s) of your choice to complete an inquiry form. Workshops must be scheduled a minimum of 3 weeks in advance, based on availability, and can accommodate up to 30 students. Workshops are presented on ZOOM.

Hip-Hop Dance
(Grades 3 – 12)
This virtual workshop will engage students in popular Hip Hop party dances of the 80s and 90s. Through discussion and movement students will learn the origin and conventions of each technique while attaining a vital understanding of how foundational street, funk, and club styles formulated the dance element of Hip Hop Culture.

Historic Social Dances of Harlem
(Grades K – 12)
This exciting and active workshop engages students in the classic dances of Harlem’s Savoy Ballroom, a world-class institution of music and dance in operation from 1926 through 1958. Students will be acquainted with the origins, relevance, and steps of social dances such as the “Lindy Hop,” “Shorty George,” and “Suzy-Q.”

Rhythm Explorations
(Grades K -6)
Students will embark on a vibrant expedition through the progression of the African diaspora’s energetic and rhythmic sounds, accompanied by percussive instruments.

Theater Explorations
(Grades 3 – 12)
Through a series of fun games and activities, students will acquire the storytelling tools of an actor including how to successfully engage an audience through gestures and facial expression, amongst many other devices.

We Sing! Ella Fitzgerald
(Grades K – 2)
On a musical journey with renowned singer Ella Fitzgerald, students will learn not only of her sensational musical contributions to The Apollo and the world, but also to sing one of her most popular songs.

A series of video clips, musical selections, and interactive activities will guide students to having an essential understanding of Apollo’s historic and continuous presence as a radiating nexus of the performing arts.
