Created by participants in the Apollo Theater Academy High School Internship Program, Apollo Teen Takeover will celebrate art created by teens from across New York City providing a space for them to showcase their talents, express their creativity, mix n’ mingle and collaborate with other young artists. Whether it’s music, dance, theatre, media, or visual arts, Apollo Teen Takeover is the place to be this summer for youth with a passion for the arts. So come out and mix it up with some of NYC’s most talented young artists.

Khaya Cohen

Khaya Cohen is an 18-year old singer and songwriter who loves R&B, Jazz & Soul music.  She writes about her family, friends, and her life experiences. Khaya is most known for placing in the top 13 on X-Factor USA and has since continued to perform at various venues around the city. 

 

Ty-Flo aka Tyler Dean Flores

Ty-Flo is an actor, model, dancer and rapper from Harlem, NY. He started break dancing and making his own beats at a young age. He also played the role of Mark in The Dark Knight Rises and has appeared in many other films, ads, and television shows.

 

Jason D. Bams

Jason Daniel Bams is a dancer and choreographer who started freestyling and battling at the age of 9. He began competing, taking dance and movement classes after being inspired by a dance crew known as “World Class Dancers;” and later trained with “The Hip-Hop Conservatory.” Over the years, he has continued to train and dance with many other dancers and choreographers, gaining strength and improving technique. He has developed his own style of abstract movements and hopes to share his knowledge of dance while promoting health and positivity. He also hopes to have his own dance school one day.

 

Reality Wilson

Raised on the Upper West Side, Reality Wilson is a 17 year old singer, songwriter and rapper. He has had experience both on and off the stage as a performer and former intern at the Apollo Theater. Reality is known for his diverse style of mixing old school and new school hip hop with R&B.

 

Sung Lee

Sung Lee is an award-winning beatboxer and live looper who uses his mouth to create different kinds of sound effects and music. He has performed at various venues, including the Apollo Theater where he was crowned Amateur Night’s “Super Top Dog” for the 2014 Season Finale. He has also competed and won Vice-Champion of the 2nd Annual American Beatbox Championship, “Kollaboration Star 2014” and represented the U.S. in the loopstation battle at Grand Beatbox Battle 2015.

 

DJ1UP

Born on the beautiful island of Barbados, DJ1UP moved with his parents to New York at the age of seven. With aspirations of becoming a rapper, his goals quickly changed when his cousin and close friend DJ Kid Wonder exposed him to deejaying. With a Caribbean background and influences from DJs such as DJ Camilo, DJ Prostyles, DJ Premier, and his family, Dj1Up developed his own unique style. Only a junior in college, DJ1Up continues to learn and perfect his craft with plans to become one of the top DJs in the industry.
