The panel discussion will provided an opportunity for aspiring writers and producers to learn about the process of developing a script. Panelists provided insight into the process of character development and producing and pitching new works for the numerous media platforms available in today’s diverse entertainment market. This informative panel included some of the industry’s most talented writers and producers. Moderated by writer and producer Jenna Bond.

MUSIC 101 COLLEGE TOUR

Wednesday, January 31 at 6:00 pm

Platinum Boy Music, Inc. CEO Antwan “Amadeus” Thompson hosted his Music 101 College Tour to the Apollo Theater Soundstage. The evening included a panel discussion on careers in the music industry, the business of music, and the process of creating music. This event was a must-attend for musicians, songwriters, technicians and others looking to get started or advance in the music industry. Immediately following the panel discussion, there was an opportunity for artists and technicians in the audience to seek advice from seasoned music industry professionals.

The Apollo Theater Education Program partners again with Broadcast Music, Inc. ® (BMI) to present BMI’s well-known series “How I Wrote That Song®" (HIWTS). HIWTS provides an opportunity for aspiring songwriters and composers to learn about the craft of songwriting from today’s Latin music hit makers. Aspiring songwriters and composers will hear about the craft of songwriting from some of the industry’s most talented Latin music creators.

Behind the Scenes: Women in Dance

On March 21, a panel of creative and business professionals discussed their careers in the field of dance as administrators, managers, and choreographers. Panelists included Ana Glass, Executive Director at Dance Theatre of Harlem; Denise Saunders Thompson, Chairperson and Executive Director of International Association of Blacks in Dance; Heather McCartney, Director of School and Family Programs at The Joyce Theater; and Tiffany Rea-Fisher, Executive Artistic Director and Director of Operations at Elisa Monte Dance. This panel discussion was moderated by Michele Baer, Equity and Inclusion Coordinator at Dance/NYC. Behind the Scenes: Women in Dance was presented in collaboration with Women of Color in the Arts.
