Celia Cruz is remembered at the Apollo for her energetic performance style and assertions of Afro-Latina pride, which continue to resonate with the Harlem community.  The Apollo Theater in partnership with the Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute present a special concert to commemorate the life and legacy of Celia Cruz.  This extraordinary event, produced in collaboration with Omer Pardillo, also marks the 50th Anniversary of Cruz’s debut performance at the Apollo Theater in May 1964. The concert, featuring signature numbers from Cruz’s songbook, will be performed by Jose "El Canario" Alberto  and Orchestra and special guests Lucrecia, Anissa Gathers, Amma Mcken, Cita Rodriguez    . 

 

The Celia Cruz Legacy Project was established to celebrate Celia Cruz’s accomplishments and achievements as the world’s most iconic salsa singer. The Celia Cruz Legacy Project Archive and Research Center collects, safeguards and makes accessible materials, documents, photographs, video footage, stage dresses and pieces from Celia Cruz’s personal collection to keep the Legacy of Celia Cruz alive for generations to come.
