Community
programs extend the Apollo Theater Foundation’s
commitment to enhancing the life of the community and further
its mission as a community resource. Through a variety of
programs designed to engage children, adults, schools, families,
artists and community-based organizations the community outreach
activities build on the Apollo’s rich history as a
cultural and economic anchor to the greater Harlem community.
Family Programs combine fun and educational events with an
opportunity to experience live performances at The Apollo
Theater. Events include Holiday Celebrations of Kwanzaa and
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day; an annual African American History
Month Celebration; and Family Night Out, free opportunities for
economically challenged constituents to experience live cultural
events and film screenings at the Theater.
Each year the Apollo participates in the New York State
Martin Luther King, Jr. Literacy Initiative and the MLK, Jr.
Canned Food Drive by collecting books and food donations and
sponsoring events at the Theater to honor the legacy of Dr.
Martin Luther King Jr.
