On this special evening, Ballet Hispanico, the nation’s preeminent Latino dance company and “a staple of the American cultural scene” (The Denver Post), graces the stage of the Apollo Theater with a first-time performance featuring the live music of Grammy winners Arturo O’Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra. The performance features the world premiere of Artistic Director Eduardo Vilaro’s first work for Ballet Hispanico, an exuberant homage to salsa legend Celia Cruz entitled Asuka.
Two other repertory favorites, Club Havana and Tito on Timbales—featuring songs of Apollo legend Tito Puente, the Buena Vista Social Club and others as performed by the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra—round out an exhilarating presentation of the best of Latino dance and music.
