Eileen Lang

Apollo Music Cafe, June 3 & 4, 2011. Eileen Lang is a visual artist and fashion editor.  Her whole life has been surrounded by the arts and nature. These two serve as the driving forces behind her work. Exposure to the arts as a youngster trained her eye for the finer details and established a hunger to express herself creatively.  Living where natural occurring beauty is abundant has developed her affinity for its forms and features.  Most recently, she finds herself on shores once more, having grown up on the coastline of California, she now appreciates Long Island’s sandy beaches, and vibrant forests. Eileen states, “…whether they are moving, living, simple or complex, it is incredible how the processes of natural beauty can create such masterpieces, and this is at the core of my inspiration.”  She primarily utilizes paper as a backdrop. And is captivated by the way it partners with pigments to create a beautiful, almost natural process.  Recently, she has begun experimenting with India & Sumi Ink on photography paper—taking inspiration from the great Suminagashi masters of the Far East. Her works are simple, yet full of vitality and movement, which captures the essentials of form.
