Mai Lingani

Apollo Music Cafe, April 1 & 2, 2011.   Born in Burkina Faso and raised in Cote d'Ivoire, Mai Lingani is one of the most popular singers and song writers in her native Burkina Faso, West Africa. She is also distinguished internationally for her innovative interpretations of modern and traditional music. Mai's international carrier regularly takes her back to Europe and Africa. Lingani performed as a singer and dancer with many top musicians in important venues, mostly as a soloist performing music composed herself, but occasionally also as a background vocalist and dancer accompanying other artists. She also leads occasional workshops and seminars teaching African music and dance at universities. Mai Lingani’s music combines a deep knowledge of Burkina Faso's traditional music with the open-mindedness of a true musical innovator.

Breakin' Convention

It's a hip hop takeover at the Apollo June 13-16 as 100 dancers from around the globe gather onstage, under the marquee, all through the building during a jam-packed 4-day weekend of hip hop dance theater shows, DJ's spinning, live graffiti art, film clips and special tributes to hip hop dance icons, family workshops and free events.
